In almost every little or big town in Australia, there are little reminders everywhere about what the First world war cost our country. and people. More than 60 thousand people died during the war and almost no community or town wasn’t affected by the war. Jack Shaw thinks it would’ve been terribly hard for everyone who’s relatives go to the war and not know if they would return, knowing that everyone would return. But they still know that their fighting for everyone in our country. mJack Shaw’s great, great uncles Rufus and Cyril Rigney were with 21 other Ngarrindjeri men who went off to war. Rufus was the youngest at 16 years and had to lie about his age to enroll. Aboriginal, Australians weren’t even considered a citizen of their own home back then (unfair right). Even though they’ve fought against all our Aussies (us) in every single war we’ve ever been in. About 800 Aboriginal men enrolled in the 1st world war and thousands of men in the second. Many wanted to see the outside world and get a higher pay so they went to war. In Australia, back then they didn’t have the basic rights like we do nowadays, but then as soldiers got treated the same as any other of their fellow soldiers and some went up to high military positions (army positions). Neither Rufus or Cyril made it home, as they both died in Europe.  but In 2004 a student Donna saw the memorial and decided to do a project on it. She found that Rufus had a grave in Belgium and saved up to visit. She brought back some dirt from his grave so his relatives could say goodbye properly. 2 years after that a cousin went and performed a traditional fire dance. The trip became regular a pilgrimage called connecting spirits. Every two-year students go and visit the grave of Aussie soldiers who they researched. Jake Shaw- Said, it was a big thing for all the families that had people leaving. It doesn’t matter what they look like and their skin color doesn’t change the sacrifice they made for our country.

I understand how important it was for the aborigines on ANZAC day, their rights, how it is important to respect the family who lost people in war and to never judge anyone.

Why did Rufus want to go to war and lie about his age

Goal: to exactly 100 words

on the school holidays, my friends and I went to the park to play on the playground. As we were walking to the playground we just all went silent for a couple seconds and thought about high school and how we might not see each other for a while. as I was thinking of it I started thinking of all the fun things we had done in the past. Then we arrived at the playground and as we played like we were in prep I just thought this is another great memory to have with my friends and me.

“who wants to get on the light bulb bike first?” “ME!!!!!!” I say really loudly and end up getting chosen. ” And who will be your competitor on the bike?” ” umm, I chose Bella” “ok take your seats on the bike and the task is who ever make their light bulb go the brights in 30 secs so keep pedaling. ok on your marks, get set, GO!!” and they were off. Although they were run quickly they still weren’t making enough progress with the lights, until the last 10 sec. my light was going bright and hers was to but at the end, it was tied.

some people are addicted to social media and keep posting and posting to get more likes and comments on their posts but what you don’t know is that there are people working behind the senses and know more about you than you think. There are people called hacker’s you have probably heard of them before, and they can find out where you live, your education, your friends (sometimes family) and even make a map of what they think you are like. Some sites like facebook like to target ads specifically for you. But now a guy called Christoper Wylie claims that a big US research company he used to work for called Cambridge Analycita was collecting information for people inappropriately and may have used the data they collected to influence the 2016 US presidential election, and here is what happened. Now you know those quiz’s you can take online that are really fun like “What personality do you have? or What type of shoe you have?” yeah I mean them. although they are really fun most of the time you have to give some personal information about your self, that could be anything like your name, date of birth and your email. that’s when Christoper said the trouble started. In 2014 Cambridge Analycita started taking the information from the people who did those quizzes and used that information to target ads advertising Donald Trump and that might have helped him win the 2016 presidential election and become president. Now people think that the data from Facebook may have also tampered the votes for the Brexit vote. (when the United Kingdom decided the leave the European Union. when this news came out came out let’s just say people weren’t happy. in fact, people now because it was such a big scandal decided to leave Facebook for good. And now there is a new hashtag #deletefacebook and it has been trending more and more and Facebook is taking a tumble down and becoming less and less popular.

I understand that there are lots of things you can do online that try to get you to give your personal information and that they always try to get as much information out of you as they can.

Why did they want to start taking information off people?

Semester 1 goals check-in

Semester 1 goals check-in

Goals for semester 1

What I want to learn:

I want to learn my 6, 7, 8 times Tables off by heart and find good strategies to help me learn them and solve them.

I want to learn as much as I can about natural disasters and how they work

List examples of things I could do that would show I am trying to meet my goal:

  • I can practise every night
  • I can ask my mum and dad to help with my times tables and finding strategies
  • I can take lots of notes in class

Check-in:

So far I haven’t learnt any of the times tables off by heart but I have started to learn a bit of my 6’s and some of the 7’s but not my eights. I have learnt a bit by just looking at this book i have and referring to it for help

with the natural disasters I haven’t learnt anything new but I know like what I think is the basics like how a volcano erupts  or how a tornado starts but is all I really know.

How I learn and behave:

I want to use the mat traits be strong and be calm in my everyday life

I want to be more organised this year be using my diary more and finishing homework on time

List examples of things I could do that would show I am trying to meet my goal:

  • I can use one of those traits everyday
  • I can remind myself to use one
  • Make sure I am filling in my diary
  • Do all homework the first available day

Check-in

I feel like I have been calm when and strong when there are problems with anything and that I have been using them more often then I did in the past and I have done that by being aware that I am getting stressed or upset and just calming my self down.

With my diary I have been using quit often but not all the time but I have been checking it. And with finishing my homework I have really improved there might be 1-2 times I have done it a bit late but I usually get it done on time.
